Parlotte is a Matrix messaging client. The developers of Parlotte do not collect, store, or transmit any of your data.

Data Parlotte handles on your device

Parlotte stores the following locally, on your Mac, and nowhere else:

  • Matrix credentials (access token and user identifier) — stored in the macOS Keychain.
  • Encryption keys (device keys, room keys, recovery backup) — stored in an on-device SQLite database managed by matrix-rust-sdk.
  • Message history and timeline state — cached locally for offline access.
  • App preferences (notification toggles, profile name, appearance) — stored in UserDefaults.

Uninstalling Parlotte removes all of the above.

Data Parlotte sends over the network

Parlotte connects only to the Matrix homeserver you configure. All Matrix protocol traffic — messages, presence, device verification, media uploads — goes directly to that homeserver.

  • We do not operate a homeserver.
  • We do not proxy, inspect, or log any of your traffic.
  • The homeserver’s privacy policy applies to data it receives from you. Choose a homeserver you trust, or run your own.

Third parties

  • Your chosen Matrix homeserver receives your Matrix traffic.
  • Apple may collect diagnostics and crash reports if you opt into sharing them with developers (standard macOS behavior; see Apple’s privacy policy).
  • No analytics SDKs. No advertising SDKs. No fingerprinting. No trackers of any kind.

Notifications

Parlotte uses local notifications only. They are generated by your Mac when the app receives a new message from your homeserver. No notification content is sent to Apple’s push servers or any third party.

Encryption

Private rooms in Parlotte are end-to-end encrypted using the Matrix Megolm protocol. Your encryption keys are generated and stored on your device. The developers of Parlotte cannot read your encrypted messages.

Account deletion

  • Remove Parlotte: drag the app to the trash. All local data goes with it.
  • Delete your Matrix account: use your homeserver’s account deactivation flow. Parlotte does not operate account infrastructure.
